What stays on your Mac

• Your camera and microphone feed — live only, never uploaded.
• Your recordings — saved inside your decks, in your Yap folder.
• Your decks, images, and videos — stored locally in the .yap files you make.
• Live captions and the green-screen cutout — transcribed and rendered on your Mac.
• Image generation — runs on-device through Apple Intelligence.

The AI deck-builder

When you ask Yap's AI to build or edit a deck, the text you type and your deck's text go to Anthropic (Claude) to write the response — using your own Anthropic key, billed to you. Your key is stored locally on your Mac.

Your camera, images, video, and recordings are never sent. The request is text only. Web slides load real pages live, the same as a browser would.

Anonymous usage

To learn which features matter, Yap can record content-free usage — that a deck was created, a present started, an export finished. It's tagged with a random per-install id, never your name, your account, your deck content, or anything from your camera, and IP addresses are discarded. You can turn it off any time in Settings → AI. Crash reports are summarized the same way — the crash type and app version, nothing more.

Feedback you send

If you use Help → Send Feedback in the app, Yap sends the note you type, plus the app version and build, your macOS version, and a random per-install id (not your name, not your account). If you choose to add your name or email in that sheet, it comes along so I can reply, and a valid email is used only as the reply address. Nothing from your deck, camera, microphone, or recordings is ever included in feedback. Delivery runs through Resend, and your IP address is not kept as feedback metadata.

The website and the beta list

When you join the waitlist, I store your email so I can send occasional project updates and invite people in as the beta grows. The address lives in a private key-value store (Vercel KV), and contact and email preferences are managed through Resend. Unsubscribe from any email and you're out, and I never re-add an address that has unsubscribed. Your IP address is not stored with your signup.

The site uses PostHog for a small set of anonymous, cookieless measurements: a page visit, a waitlist action, reaching the form, and whether a signup succeeds or fails. A short campaign label may record which event or link brought you here. Your email, form contents, full URL, and raw errors are never sent to PostHog. The site does not use session recording, automatic click capture, advertising trackers, or analytics person profiles, and IP addresses are anonymized.

What it never does

• No account required to use Yap.
• No selling your data, and no third-party ad trackers.
• Never collects your camera, microphone, photos, recordings, or deck content.

Terms, briefly

Yap is an early beta, provided as-is — expect rough edges. You own what you make with it. Don't use it to do harm. Anything you'd like removed or asked: get in touch.
