Yap points a camera at you, so let's be plain. The short version: your camera, photos, and recordings never leave your Mac. The only thing that goes out is the text you hand the AI — and only with your own key.

.yap files you make.When you ask Yap's AI to build or edit a deck, the text you type and your deck's text go to Anthropic (Claude) to write the response — using your own Anthropic key, billed to you. Your key is stored locally on your Mac.
Your camera, images, video, and recordings are never sent. The request is text only. Web slides load real pages live, the same as a browser would.
To learn which features matter, Yap can record content-free usage — that a deck was created, a present started, an export finished. It's tagged with a random per-install id, never your name, your account, your deck content, or anything from your camera, and IP addresses are discarded. You can turn it off any time in Settings → AI. Crash reports are summarized the same way — the crash type and app version, nothing more.
If you use Help → Send Feedback in the app, Yap sends the note you type, plus the app version and build, your macOS version, and a random per-install id (not your name, not your account). If you choose to add your name or email in that sheet, it comes along so I can reply, and a valid email is used only as the reply address. Nothing from your deck, camera, microphone, or recordings is ever included in feedback. Delivery runs through Resend, and your IP address is not kept as feedback metadata.
When you enter your email on this site to get the download link, I store it so I can send that link and occasional updates. The address lives in a private key-value store (Vercel KV), and contact and email preferences are managed through Resend. Unsubscribe from any email and you're out, and I never re-add an address that has unsubscribed. Your IP address is not stored with your signup. The download page needs no email, and that link is yours to share.
Yap is an early beta, provided as-is — expect rough edges. You own what you make with it. Don't use it to do harm. Anything you'd like removed or asked: get in touch.
